Dostek DNC™

MULTIPORT EDITION

Dostek DNC MultiPort Edition features "remote call-up" to let you save and retrieve part programs from a remote computer. If you are currently using a laptop or shop-floor computer to load programs, switching to remote call-up reduces operating costs and saves setup time.

Convenient remote call-up. With MultiPort Edition, there is no need for CNC operators to leave their station to load, save or run (drip feed) programs. Instead, operators send instructions directly to the computer using the machine tool's control panel.

Eliminate shop-floor computers. Because CNC operators can communicate remotely, shop-floor computers are not needed. A single "DNC Server" computer can upload, download and drip feed to all CNCs simultaneously from a remote location.

Maximize security. Dostek DNC MultiPort Edition can run in the background as a Windows "service", so there's no need for a user to be 'logged in' to the computer. And because CNC operators never need to access the computer, it can be locked away for maximum security.

How it works. MultiPort Edition continuously monitors all machine tools and automatically stores all received data. To save a file from the machine tool to the computer, the operator simply sends the file using the machine's punch, send or output command. To download a file from the computer to the machine, the operator follows a simple 3-step procedure:

O7990
(LOAD R274598B-OP02)
%

  1. Create a simple command file (like the one pictured at right).
  2. Send (punch) the command file from the CNC to the computer.
  3. Wait 5 seconds to allow the computer time to process the command.
  4. Execute a read or input command on the CNC.

If the requested file is not found, the computer sends an informative error message in place of the requested file.

Flexible command format. With Dostek DNC, you can use the default command format or you can specify your own. Commands are provided to load, save and print files, and to retrieve directory listings or system messages. You can choose to use any word or abbreviation you wish for each command and for each machine.

Works with long file names. You can use long file names, including names containing spaces. You can specify the file type (extension) in the command (LOAD A374-6B.TAP) and set a default file type for each machine to minimize typing. With the few oder CNCs that do not let you type in long file names, you can still load files with long names by using a short numeric alias.

Start, restart and repeat. When drip feeding, you can specify a starting block:
  (LOAD R274598B-OP02 N1240)
or you can tell the computer to automatically repeat the same file over and over again:
  (LOAD R274598B-OP02 /R)

Flexible file storage. MultiPort Edition works with local disk drives and network file servers. You can specify separate upload and download folders for each CNC individually. Storing uploaded files (from the CNC) in a separate folder prevents overwriting of existing files and permits verification of shop-floor changes. When requesting a file from the computer, you can specify a subfolder (L HUBS/O1234) or Dostek DNC can automatically search subfolders to find the requested file. When saving files to the computer, you can automatically use the program number, or you can specify a name manually. You can even store multiple programs, such as a main program and several sub-programs, into a single file.

Remote printing. If you wish, you can let CNC operators remotely send files to the printer. If you have a large shop with several printers, you can designate a specific printer for each machine.

Remote file directory. The Directory command lets you retrieve a list of available files, search for a specific file, or determine the size of a file. 'Wildcard' searches are supported.

System Management. A simple user interface (pictured at the top of this page) lets the system administrator set up the system and monitor it's use. All CNC operations can be recorded in a log file for tracking and analysis. When running as a Windows service, the MultiPort DNC server operates in the background and appears as an icon in the Windows system tray.

Includes all Professional Edition features. Dostek DNC MultiPort Edition includes the same file editing, searching and comparison tools as Professional Edition.
